What Pete's Talking About:
FUN IS GOOD: In the book Fun is Good, Pete teamed up with maverick marketer Mike Veeck to present a simple, no-fail formula for business success: Make work fun and you’ll create a culture of creativity where the best people will want to work and customers will want to spend their money. At the heart of the philosophy is the need to reexamine the way we do business, from employer-employee relationships to customer service. The Fun is Good philosophies, made famous by the zany antics, promotions, and giveaways at Veeck’s minor league baseball teams, apply to any business.
LESSONS FROM THE NFL DRAFT: Nearly 40 million people tune in to watch the annual NFL Draft the last weekend of April, making it the highest-rated cable program for the month. Pete spent a year following the NFL Draft for his book The Draft: a Year inside the NFL’s Search for Talent. He tagged along with NFL scouts and executives, sports agents, college coaches, and the players themselves to get an insight into how the talent evaluation process unfurls. He breaks down the cutthroat process in a manner that will appeal to diehard NFL “draftniks,” casual football fans, and business executives alike.
YOUR CORE STRENGTH: At your core is a high-performing “athlete” ready to get out and compete in the Game of Life. Pete is the co-author (with Mark Verstegen) of the top-selling Core Performance fitness book series, which has shown thousands how to harness the core strength of their mind and body and reach new heights in fitness and in life. Pete will show your audience how to tap into that core strength, too. This talk can be tailored for a general business audience or made interactive for running and triathlon clubs.
WHAT I LEARNED FROM BASEBALL CARDS: As a kid, Pete learned to read with baseball cards. As an adult, he’s written two books on the subject: Sports Memorabilia for Dummies and Card Sharks, the latter of which explored the meteoric rice of trading card manufacturer Upper Deck. In this talk, he provides insight into a colorful industry and explains the lessons he’s learned through trading cards.
